Thanks Red and hey Avarre, how you doin'?

@ Tim Hortons during snow storms : It was totally awesome (we're in canada), you know when it snows so much you can barely see in front of you? So my friend has this old 1992(?) Toyota Tercel crap, and we just couldn't see what was in front of us, aside from the house and truck lights (you know, those that toss the snow away), and the car was slipping sooooo much. All this to get to a Tim Horton's and have cookies while discussing GW strategies.

The two of us had made a guild called "The Financial Solution" (that was at the time where 5-men SF was popular and Brohn's items were easily > 100K) and my friend had the idea of us two hiring people to find greens, we would pay them instantly a certain price per item and we would take care of the trade for them. (Basically, we paid about 90% of the item's "market-safe" worth, for each green from SF). He had come up with an excel spreadsheet during his computer class with a detailed price list and how we could maximize profits etc.

Then we made Ordinarily Extraordinary [oX], where we had to be the most creative farmers. All over winter 2005-early 2006. (Later, he joined SMS as he admired Racthoh's work, and I started PvP, and slowly we both started playing less and less and eventually quit )

Also I remember practicing the Icy Dragon Sword runs all day long (when they just came out), listening to music from Pandora (while it was still permitted for Canadians, because now it's not). I still remember that run from Granite to Minerals with the Dolyaks and a Hey Mercedes (that's a band) song playing *dreamy*

After posting, I got so nostalgic about these times, I just browsed my computer for possible souvenirs and found some screenshots, so I took a few of the best and uploaded them.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/2045392...7603128765577/

I added descriptions to each picture, I hope those who will check them out will enjoy them !

P-S: There's a pic that's just for you, Avarre

Oh yeah! You're right, my bad. It was the purples we'd have to ask about. And purples were exicting at the time.

Also I remember when everyone had sterotype RP names like
Jenifer Longbow or David Skullcrusher. (Dunno if those are real)
and Koreans kept winning in the hall with confusing somewhat English names.

I remember a bug in Granite Citadel that ALWAYS allowed you to run through the gate and go free exploring up into the first section of Mineral Springs.

I remember exploring Pre with my friend. (2 man max groups are THE BEST)

I remember when I thought farming meant growin stuff in the feilds. (I was a MMO newbie)

I remember reading an article about proffesions and pre/post searing and becoming even MORE confused about the game.

I remember [LuLu] - when you didn't have trouble finding a party to do missions with. The Ring of Fire was the shit ( now no ones even there ) When being a healer meant you could always find a group for UW or FoW or just anything at all. There were no heroes, no minis, black ink was the highest, 15k armor was awesome- Glint was unbeatable.

I remember when I paid 40k for one of Brohn Stoneheart's greens (not sure if it was the wand or the offhand), and it was a bargain that my guildies were all jealous of.

Despite all the gnashing of teeth, the economy really is deflating.

Interesting.

I remember bragging in all-chat about getting my first Kephkets Refuge.

I remember thinking that presearing -WAS- guild wars. I was clueless there was more. >.>

I remember when "leet-speak" was retarded and frowned upon. Its "all the rage" now. Can't go anywhere without seeing ZOMG.

I remember when people actually OFFERED to help you.

I remember when they first made it so when a purple or gold dropped, it would show that color text on the item on your chat log.

I remember when they didn't have a countdown bar on condition and enchant durations.

I remember during my first "guild experience" that I met another female gamer and we became good friends, she told about how she was a 23 white girl from Michigan. After that, I joined this all girls guild with my new friend. The guild was lame though and no one was ever on so I left. After I left, I still remained in contact with my friend. Until...

I found out my friend was a guy. Now I'm not racist AT ALL, in fact I don't even notice it but what I found weird was that he was a 23 year old black guy from Michigan. I didn't understand why he pretended to be white. The whole thing was very odd. The fact that he put on this whole facade just to trick people into thinking he was a girl and go beyond that really creeped me out. Needless to say, I remember the first time I used the ignore list.

Although remembering what once was is fun, we cannot let ourselves wonder from what is now. Remember Anet, no matter how good they might want to be to the Gamers, is a company and they need to change the game to attract new players. Making things less expensive is just a way to make everyday players happy, no matter how much it bothers the rich grinders.

I remember when:

-farmers where happy with an easily exploitable zones/farming spots,
-when they farmed of spots with over-powered skills(*cough*Protective Bond),
-and when the economy was controlled by a few rich players.

But like I said the past is where it should be(and remain), in the past.

When Chitin Fragments were known as Shells.

When there was that weird Evade mechanic, which confused a whole bunch of people.

I remember when I went to post sear ascalon for the first time 2 and a half ish years ago when people we're selling "max" damge weapons, which I thought must be like 100-150 damage. Haha.

I also remember the first real money I made was when the tombs changed from PvP to ToPK and getting Wenslaus' faith afew hours after it was launched and selling for 100k, and then powertrading with the new weapons to buy the next day Victos axe for 100k+10 ectos and Bulwark for 100k+15 ectos... Haha that was the most money I'd ever had back then and I felt really leet, especially when people said, Wow is that a Victos set??!?

Goooood times....

I remember that getting 4k in a week was darn good.

I remember that I thought you have to buy new armor set to use different runes... I lost at least 40k throwing out armors to merchant, buying new armor + runes and few times...

I remember using builds without ANY synergy, like N/Me with 3 interrupts, Energy Tap, minions, Conjure Phantasm... And that for at least 3 months I had a build without rez...

I also remember my first guild... I had no idea what's going on, how I got to Shiverpeaks (didn't know the name of mountains at that time - we had Frozen Isle guild hall) and I was wandering mindlessly around the place...

I remember that I got level 14 in Old Ascalon (level 10 in pre-ascalon, four levels in Ascalon) and still couldn't finish Fort Ranik mission...

I remember that my first pve elite was... after 7-8 months of playing, few days after Factions came out I got Stolen Speed with my N/Me...

I remember ranger minor runes were 2-3k and vigor rune was for XXk... Minor vigor. Those were the days...

I remember when Gwen walked into ascalon one fateful beta weekend, and annilated everyone in town.

I remember killing Rift Wardens in Tombs before your first match against real opponents, and being happy at being able to solo Wardens.

I remember when 2 man 55/SS in UW was both fun and profitable.

I remember Drake Farming.

I remember Attribute Refund Points, and my extreme happyness when they were purged from the game.

I remember when steel ingots was a good way to make money.

I remember when a clestial sigil was worth a fortune, and not every guild had a guild hall. So much for the days of guilds earning their halls...

I remember when me and friends/guildmates/party members would sing the song of "Rurik, the retard!" In the beta and early retail, as he had really, really bad AI.

I remember when going through THK was actually a challenge, and glad for it, as it kept noobs and people with terrible teamwork skills from progressing. I also remember getting quite livid when much of proph pve was nerfed, and became too easy.

I remember the first time I beat Hell's Precipice, that actually felt epic and felt like I accomplished something.

I remember going around with 35+ bone fiends in Maguma Jungle area and laying waste to all that would dare oppose me

i remember when i learned that bosses were the hardest thing in the world. And sometimes even 6 of you wouldn't kill it. I remember not knowing why i couldn't carry a shield as a necro, and why atrib points were supposed to be used when you got them, not 5 days later. I really miss the fact that this game used to be genuinely hard. For all the THK'ers out there, i feel your pain. That was the most amazing mission of it's time, enemies had all the skills that killed you, and you couldn't do much to stop them. I remembered paying a monk to join my party. I remember that this game used to be challenging to beat, and that people who didn't know eachother would work together and stratagize for the 54th consecutive time because they were so close to winning. What happened to those days? oh yea, Factions and NF. Oh yea, and one more thing... I remember when your max damage gold with 15 stance short sword, was worth some money and people wanted to buy it. THANKS INSCRIPTIONS! YOUR MY FAVS!
